TENS units (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) are portable devices that use electric current applied to the skin.
The kind of pulses produced by portable stimulators is used primarily to treat chronic pain. The unit can be worn on your belt and is usually connected to the skin using two or more electrodes. A typical battery-operated TENS unit is able to modulate pulse width, frequency and intensity. These settings help to reduce pain superficially without causing muscle contraction.
It is thought that they reduce pain via the gate control theory. Both offices carry a quality digital version of these units.
We sell the TENS units in both our suburban Homewood and downtown Chicago offices.
